Disc Skimmers

SHARE

A disc skimmer is used to remove oil from water. It picks up oil with less than 2% water intake. The skimmer floats on water and has a number of rotating discs that sit half in and half out of the water. As the discs rotate they pass through the oil that is sitting on top of the water. The oil adheres to the disc. The oil is scraped from the disc and runs into a sump before being pumped to shore. The smallest floating Global skimmer has 5 discs and a maximum pick-up capacity of 1.5 tonne per hour. The large 40 disc skimmer with a 300mm disc has a capacity of 15 tonne per hour and 30 tonne per hour with a 450mm disc.
