Using the tests is simple. All you have to do is:

  • Break up some plant material
  • Add the sample to the buffer bottle
  • Shake the buffer bottle (includes ball bearings)
  • Allow the plant material to settle in the bottle
  • Use the pipette provided to add liquid (no plant debris) to the test
  • Wait 10 minutes for a result

Erwinia amylovora is a serious bacterial disease of some rosaceous plants (apples, pears and related trees and shrubs). The bacterium causes the disease Fire blight and is a major threat to industry; pears are most susceptible to Fire blight.

Like many other plant pathogens, Erwinia amylovora features on the UK Plant Health Risk Register and the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO) A2 List of pests recommended for regulation as quarantine pests.
