PSA - Model Millennium Merlin 10.025 -Excalibur Mercury Analyser
Arsenic occurs in large quantities in the earth`s crust and in trace quantities in rocks, soil, water and air. Exposure to arsenic can cause major heath problems. P S Analytical have designed the PSA 10.055 Millennium Excalibur to be able to measure Arsenic in solids, sludges and liquids. The instrument combines the advantages of vapour generation techniques which removes most interference with the sensitivity and selectivity of atomic fluorescence spectrometry. Atomic fluorescence spectrometry gives the added advantage of excellent linearity which in this case is over 5 orders of magnitude.
Applications include environmental samples (e.g. mercury in ground water, sea water, well water, bottled water and drinking water), foods (e.g. mercury in fish, rice, vegetables, tea & milk), biological samples (e.g. mercury in urine, blood and hair), industrial samples (e.g. mercury in effluents, aluminium, zinc electrolytes, paper, incineration ash, sodium hypochlorite, caustic soda, fly ash, sulphur, and brines), and petrochemical chemical samples including; mercury in naphthas, crude oil, condensates, formation waters and other petrochemical products.
The biodegradable products methyl mercury and dimethylmercury are even more toxic and accumulate in fish tissues from where they enter the human food chain. The Millennium Merlin is versatile enough to be hyphenated with HPLC systems to allow the user to resolve speciation studies for these highly toxic organo-mercury compounds
The control of the system is via a PC with Millennium Software which not only controls the instrument but allows discrete data capture with full integration into user networks and formats.
The software records all instrument parameters and calibration graph with the results of each analysis so is excellent for GLP validation procedures and laboratory records.
The software has the added advantage of allowing the user to independently operate up to two Millennium instruments (Merlin, Excalibur or combination) from the same PC thus reducing bench space footprint to a minimum.
Three versions of the instrument are available, a) the standard PSA 10.025 Millennium Merlin with atomic fluorescence detection as described above.
b) The PSA 10.035 Millennium which uses vapour generation with atomic fluorescence detection plus an amalgamation facility to reduce detection limits even further. This instrument is compliant with EPA 1631 method for drinking water but is ideal for any application where very low levels of mercury need to be measured.
The analyser can be operated in both 1631 and standard Merlin configurations according to laboratory analytical requirements
An additional accessory is available for the analysis of mercury in air samples which connects quickly and easily to the PSA 10.035 Millennium 1631 for this application.

c) A modified unit, the PSA 10.045 Millennium Merlin Cold Vapour - system designed specifically for Cold Vapour AAS technology and compliant to the following methods: EPA 245.1, EPA 245.2, EPA 7470 and EPA 7471with atomic absorption detection for people using these older standard methods.
