The Trash Trap is a useful complimentary tool to OPEC’s boom range. In general booms can only be used as a temporary measure to act as a containment barrier against floating debris.

In truth booms should be used to ‘deflect’ floating material so it can be collected and disposed of safely and efficiently. To do this the boom must be installed at an acute angle to the flow of water. If the boom is square on to the flow of water it will act as a damn and debris will build up in huge layers and eventually permanently damage the boom.

The angle of deflection depends on the size of the river, the speed of flow, depth and other factors.

Once the boom has been successfully deployed a collection device – ‘the trash trap’ can be fixed to the end of the boom so that any floating debris will be deflected into the removable basket.

Once full the basket can be emptied by the use a skip truck or small portable crane depending on the application.

A simple yet very effective tool to reduce pollution of inland waterways as well as to assist in costly maintenance of inlet filters and sluice gates along canals and rivers.

The ‘Trash Trap’ is designed to retrofit to the boom so that a complete seal is maintained.
