Ateco - Floating Suction Units
Floating Suction Units are primarily used to draw off product from just below the surface of liquids stored in fixed roof tanks to avoid transferring contaminants to the pumps and process equipment. The main component parts of the Ateco Floating Suction Unit comprise floatation chambers to ensure the draw off is at the correct level, pipe and Ateco Swing Joints.
Ateco manufacture a range and size of swing joints including double and single arm with component parts compatible with most stored products and in diameters from 75 mm (3 ins) up to 1000 mm (36 ins).
Ateco desıgn and manufacture floatıng suctıon unıts for vertıcal and horızontal tanks where there ıs a equırement to draw product from the top surface of the stored product.
There are six configurations available for vertical and horizontal tanks with fixed or floating roofs and outlets at the top, centre or bottom, in sizes 3" to 36" [75 mm to 900 mm]. The fuel intake of the floating suction unit is positioned just below the free surface of the liquid level. The area available for drawing fuel into the suction unit is arranged so that it faces substantially downwards, away from the free fuel surface to prevent a vortex from forming which could cause air or vapour entrainment into the liquid stream
- Articulated pipe and floatation chambers are manufactured wıth alumınıum or staınless steel
- Swing joints have aluminium bodies, stainless steel internals and specifically designed for submerged service to ensure compatibility with most stored products and suitable for variety of discharge pumping rates
- The FSU is installed in a fixed position, air is not trapped in the arms during tank filling and at the highest point a hole is drilled in the pipe to allow air to escape
- Can be fitted in tanks with or without a floating roof using custom designed swing joints
- To ensure that the arm can not lock in a vertical position, this can be important if the tank diameter is less than the height, a stainless steel
- restraining chain is attached to the upper end of the pipe
- Pressure tested floatation chambers ensures that there are no leaks
- All component parts can pass through a standard (24 ins) shell manhole
- At low level, the floating suction unit is located on supports, this avoids the pipe work resting in any sediment on the bottom of the tank
