Chemical Analysis Made Simple

It is time to change how we think about water quality monitoring. Our first product line utilizes a tunable-bacteria capable of ultra-sensitive measurements for trace chemicals in a water sample. This platform technology can be developed to detect virtually any chemical that interacts with a living organism.

Our technology is pushing the limits of what biosensors and field monitoring kits are capable of and offers our customers numerous benefits over competing systems. With the ability to test complex samples without lengthy preparation steps, the FREDsense system is the most flexible sensor suite developed to date.

Current Sensors
Arsenic

A potent health hazard that is difficult to treat, found in trace quantities throughout groundwater systems.

Sensors in Development
SARS-CoV-2

Wastewater carrying SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA can be used to estimate how many infected people are in the area.

Chromium

A highly oxidative, genotoxic carcinogen that can cause a wide variety of health issues.

MCLR

Microcystin-LR (MCLR) is a cyanobacterial toxin released by toxic blue-green algae, known to cause acute hepatoxicity.

The FRED system comes in two parts: a cartridge, for sample addition containing all the reagents needed to run the test, and a portable detector, which measures and reports the results. When a water sample is added to the cartridge, the engineered bacteria detects the chemical and produces an electrochemical signal.

Simply fill the cartridge, place into the detector device, and wait. The detector will automatically incubate the test and, in about one hour, measure and report the resulting chemical concentration either through 3G, Wi-Fi, or USB connection on a computer, mobile device, or server.

In the future, our Biological Platform will be adapted to integrate directly with your sampling process and function autonomously to perform measurements over a period of time, with no human interaction.

Simply place FRED in your body of water, establish a connection, and monitor from your desk!
