Solution for Long-term Sampling
The system is the perfect solution for the long-term isokinetic sampling of hazardous organic compounds in industrial and domestic waste incineration plants. In addition to dioxins, the system is capable of sampling furans and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs), such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). To get even more out of the system, the GT90 Dioxin+ can also be equipped with the ParTrace option, enabling heavy metal and fine dust collection.
Technology Designed and Built for Purpose
Today, Industrial Emissions Directive (IED) and some industry-specific BREF/BAT documents require monitoring of dioxins. The GT90 Dioxin+ was specifically designed to fulfill these limits and sample even the lowest dioxin and dioxin-like compound concentrations in harsh industrial environments.
The system has been performance tested and validated, allowing measurements down to 0.0003 – 0.252 ng I-TEQ /m³. The system can withstand dust loads up to 150 mg/m3 and velocities up to 30 m/s without any effect on the performance.
Method for reliable dioxin samplingThe system uses the dilution method according to the EN 1948-1 standard. Thanks to the heated sample line and dilution method used, the system works free from condensate. After the sampling period ends, the dry filter unit is transported to an accredited laboratory for analysis. The dry sample is easier to transport to the laboratory and the dry sampling method is also more reliable since no condensate is formed which would need to be transported for analysis as well.
Features that take the sampling to a new levelThis minimizes the need for probe unit maintenance and makes sure that no dirt will enter the system. The system can also be equipped with remote access and control, allowing e.g., remote calibrations, leak tests and data download during operation.
In flue gas, dioxins are mainly absorbed on particles but also evaporated in the gas phase. When sampling, the flue gas is cooled down with dilution air to ensure that a high portion of the gaseous dioxins is or remains absorbed on the particles. At this low temperature, no further chemical reactions (losses) or synthesis (production) are possible, making the results accurate and reliable.
GT90 Dioxin+ versionsThere are two versions available, Standard and Compact. The Standard version has two probes, which is especially good for stacks with large diameters. It also has the ParTrace option, which enables fine dust and heavy metal sampling. The Compact version has one probe and is more suitable for stacks with smaller diameters. Both are MCERTS certified providing high-quality measurements.
GT90 Dioxin+ System OverviewThe system consists of a heated sampling probe unit, heated line and control cabinet. The system has titanium probe tubes and cartridges as a standard. For very harsh measuring point conditions we can optionally provide titanium heat exchanger and sampling probe unit valves: In this case, all materials in contact with the sample gas from the tip of the probe tube to the cartridge would be titanium.
Dioxin Sampling Requirements in Waste Incineration Plants
In December 2019 the BAT (Best Available Technology) Conclusions document for Waste Incineration plants (WI BAT) was published under the Industrial Emissions Directive (IED). There the new BAT-Associated Emission Levels (BAT-AELs) for the dioxins and dioxin-like PCBs were set. The BAT-AELs work as a framework for authorities to set plant-specific ELVs, i.e. Emissions Limit Values. You can read the more in-depth report here: WI BAT conclusions published – key findings in emissions monitoring.
