GEODEVICE - Model SmartMag -Overhauser base station magnetometer
Easy-to-Use Console
The console provides simple mode setup, real-time data view, and access to stored measurements from the built-in microSD card.
Data download via USB (to PC or smartphone) or real-time broadcast via RS-232 or CAN.
Features: OLED display (−40 to +60 °C); Backlit keypad; Built-in multi-band GNSS with RAW data collection.
Suitable for Magnetic Observatories
SmartMag offers high sensitivity, high sampling rate and <0.1 nT accuracy, making it an excellent choice for INTERMAGNET-grade observatories.
Real-time streaming: CAN FD or RS-232.
Optional CAN–Ethernet interface allows direct connection to network infrastructure; CAN line length up to several km.
Supplied with SmartManager software.
Ready-to-Use Package
The system includes all required components — no need to purchase extra cables, GNSS, or power accessories.
Options add functionality, but the basic configuration is fully operational out of the box.
Power & Autonomy
12+ hours at −30°C
23+ hours at +20°C
Power can also be supplied from: car battery, AC-DC converter (110/220 → 12V), solar panel.
The included Li-ion battery operates from −40 to +70°C and is certified for air transport.
No built-in sealed batteries → easier logistics and maintenance.
Data Format
Data is organized into project folders, each session saved as a TXT file named by:
- Console serial number
- Measurement mode
- Number of sensors
Each line contains:
UTC time, line/base name, field value, estimated error, sensor ID, lat/long, altitude, UTM (auto zone & hemisphere), and GNSS accuracy.
This makes datasets consistent and easy to merge, even when multiple operators work on site.
Multi-Sensor Gradiometer Support
SmartMag units can be synchronized over CAN FD to form multi-sensor arrays.
Up to 30 SmartMag sensors may be linked to a MaxiMag console, or a virtually unlimited network can be created using CAN–Ethernet interfaces.
Accuracy in Real Environments
Each instrument is metrologically tested (noise, absolute accuracy, orientation error).
Advanced filtering ensures reliable measurements under industrial noise and high-voltage powerlines.
Reliability & Warranty
3-year warranty
Overhauser sensor lifetime >10 years
Trade-in program available
Built-in GNSS with PPK
The multi-band GNSS receiver provides centimeter-level accuracy (PPK).
SmartMag can also work as GNSS base, rover or tracker, and GNSS RAW data can be converted to RINEX.
Supports NMEA-0183 and external GNSS via RS-232.
Key Advantages
Compact carry-on case, total weight ~7.5 kg
Unified rods: tripod or long pole assembly
12+ hours at −30°C, 23+ hours at +20°C
Power cable for car battery included
