Steam-ESCO - Green Saver Standard Unit
Our Standard Unit comes in thread sizes ranging from 15 mm to 25 mm, making it versatile and easy to install in practically any pipe configuration. The 25 mm unit can replace traditional traps of 2 inches and larger, allowing the trap assembly to be fitted in significantly more compact spaces. The Green Saver Standard Unit is designed for pressures of up to 17.2 bar.
ENERGY SAVINGS OF 6% TO 35%
In over 20 years in the industry, we have consistently found that our clients are wasting considerable amounts of energy by operating with failed or partially failed mechanical steam traps. Replacing these steam traps like-for-like with mechanical steam traps is only a short term fix as they can be expected to fail partially or fully within three to five years. In practice, this rapid replacement cycle means every system using mechanical steam traps is constantly subject to steam loss from failed or failing traps.
In addition, Green Saver Units are 6% to 10% more efficient than fully functional mechanical steam traps from the outset. Our experience therefore shows that replacing all the steam traps in an existing facility to Green Saver units can result in savings in the cost of raising steam of as much as 35%.
These savings can be precisely tested and demonstrated, please contact us to request a comprehensive site survey now.
VIRTUALLY MAINTENANCE-FREE
Unlike mechanical steam traps, Steam Esco Green Saver Units rely on the principle of fluid dynamics and therefore have no moving parts. This means they not only work 6% to 10% more efficiently, but also that they last many up to five times longer, saving you considerable sums on endless site surveys and testing equipment, spare parts inventory and general maintenance – and allowing your engineers to focus on more productive tasks. Simple periodic cleaning of the Y-strainer unit and easy cleaning of the interior of the unit is sufficient to keep it running smoothly for years.
Green Saver steam traps are also considerably more compact and straightforward in their construction, resulting in easier access for engineers and a radically reduced parts inventory.
Based on a comprehensive lifecycle and cost analysis, which we are more than happy to provide, the payback period for Green Saver steam traps is extremely short, due in part to their low maintenance cost.
SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER EMISSIONS
As less energy is lost by a steam system operating with Steam Esco Green Saver steam traps, their installation results in a measurable and reliable reduction in CO2 emissions. In markets regulated by emissions trading systems, the excess credits generated by these savings can be traded on the market, further increasing profitability and boosting the cost-effectiveness of installing our traps.
15-YEAR GUARANTEE
Unlike many of our competitors, who have planned obsolescence built into their business models, our units are built to last – and to generate significant savings for many years to come.
We guarantee each Steam Esco Green Saver steam trap for 15 years, although we routinely expect them to last up to 20 years if cleaned regularly. This is partly due to our patented design entirely free from moving parts, but also to the high quality of our custom manufacturing process and the high-grade materials we use to make in all our traps.
Each Steam Esco Green Saver steam trap is constructed from a solid block of 303 stainless steel, and is resistant to most corrosive atmospheres. We also offer grade 316 stainless steel for specific environments. Our units are custom manufactured for each application to ensure optimal performance and durability.
Our products may all look very different, but they all perform the same function – `trapping` steam in your steam system while removing hot condensate. Steam Esco Green Saver steam traps function according to the basic principles of fluid dynamics, allowing them to operate efficiently, cost effectively and with minimal wear and tear on the units themselves. Here`s how.The Bernouilli Principle
The Swiss mathematician and physicist Daniel Bernoulli first published his findings on fluid dynamics in his book Hydrodynamica in 1738. He was the first to discover the direct relationship between the speed and pressure of a fluid flowing through a pipe. Bernouilli’s principle states that any increase in velocity occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure in accordance with Bernouilli’s Equation.
The Venturi Effect
Later in the 18th century, the Italian physicist Giovanni Battista Venturi established that the pressure of a fluid can be reduced by constricting the diameter of the pipe it flows through. On the basis of Bernoulli’s equation, we can therefore calculate the extent to which this ‘choke’ will increase the velocity of the flow. This phenomenon of simultaneous pressure reduction and velocity increase is commonly used in flow metres, as well as pumps and atomizers.
The Flash
Our Green Saver steam traps contain a custom-designed nozzle technology that creates a constriction in the pipe to dramatically reduce the pressure of the gas leaving the nozzle outlet. This drop in pressure is sufficient to convert the condensate back into steam in a process known as a ‘flashing’. The ‘flash’ creates a back pressure zone in the nozzle that blocks the flow of steam. Because condensate is 1,000 times denser than steam, it is able to pass through this back pressure zone, while leaving the steam ‘trapped’ in the system. As more condensate passes through the nozzle, the flashing process is repeated, allowing the back pressure to be maintained.
USS Nautilus
This type of steam trap was first used in USS Nautilus, the world’s first nuclear submarine, which first entered service in 1954. Under the sea, steam traps need to operate reliably in a variety of conditions, including when the submarine is diving at an angle. This ruled out conventional mechanical systems.
Benefits
Steam Esco Green Saver steam traps can generally save between 10% and 35% on the total cost of steam, as well as reducing emissions. Because there are no moving parts, they are reliable, compact and easy to install. As a result of these secondary benefits, they also offer huge savings over conventional, mechanical steam traps when it comes to maintenance – Green Saver steam traps can operate for 20 years or more without requiring replacement.
Why Steam Esco?
Not only do we hold patents on our Green Saver technology, we also have the experience and expertise to install our steam traps in a wide variety of industrial settings. In order for our steam traps to function effectively, each one needs to be optimised for the given environment on a case-by-case basis. Our steam traps are custom-engineered for your facility, and we provide an end-to-end service to make sure you derive the full benefit from the Steam Esco Green Saver System.
