The wedge wire candle filter consists of a cylindrical V-wire screen element mounted vertically inside the housing. During filtration, liquid flows from outside to inside (or inside to outside, depending on design), retaining solids on the screen surface.

When differential pressure reaches a preset value, the system initiates backwashing. Clean filtrate reverses flow direction, dislodging accumulated particles and flushing them out through the discharge port—without interrupting filtration.
