Our papers are used as base materials or as components in manufactured products, as an aid in the production of other products or – due to its high absorbency – as a base sheet for chemical materials. We can call upon our extensive expertise when developing new varieties to customer specifications. Our referees include global market leaders from a variety of traditional and innovative sectors of the manufacturing and processing industries. We – and our customers – are continually discovering new applications and application settings for our products.

Hahnemühle papers possess enormous application potential:

They absorb moisture, protect sensitive surfaces, are used as base paper and coated with adhesives and polymers, etc., strengthen packaging, absorb and emit fragrances, protect as interlayer, gently cushion as packaging, stabilise as cardboard, can be impregnated, absorb shocks, conserve literature, transport liquids and fragrances, resist high temperatures, can be recycled … they are an integral part of industry and our lives!

We are convinced that you will also discover our paper to be an efficient aid in your manufacturing process or that it will boost the quality of your finished product.

In the specialty paper sector we concentrate on the following core skills:

  • hundreds of years of experience in developing the recipes for specialty papers
  • flexible cylinder mould and Fourdrinier paper machines enable efficient and attractive production including small volumes
  • standardized test procedures to the highest possible monitoring level and specification safeguard
  • comprehensive options in converting into rolls and various sheet formats
  • product uniformity from one batch to the next and very high delivery reliability

We move with the times and are continuously developing innovative and cutting edge papers for our target markets. Over the course of hundreds of years we have proved that we are open to the extremely creative and varied ideas and wishes of our customers. We regularly train new papermakers in the latest technology thereby passing on our knowledge and expertise to the next generation and investing in the continued further development of papermaking skills. Because the real skill of a papermaker lies in getting the formula right when developing a new quality with new properties. You can rely on our experienced papermakers and the flexibility of our paper machines to convert new formulae into the finished product.

Our quality assurance and development departments maintain close contact with our various raw material suppliers. This ensures both flexibility in paper properties and our ability to deliver. Our customers can develop their ideas together with our development team thereby ensuring the greatest possible competitive advantage in their market segment. Intense quality testing guarantees our customers that they receive the best product for their particular application.

We work together with renowned and accredited test laboratories and if so desired we can have our papers tested for specific properties. If the customer desires we issue a certificate of analysis as written documentation.

Hahnemühle FineArt manufactures special papers for industrial purposes, according to clients’ specifications, also in small production batches.

For and in close co-operation with our clients we develop special papers from 60 g/m² to 700 g/m² (unsized) or from 90 g/m² to 600 g/m² (stock sized), calendered, felt mark or creped. The papers are between 0,09 mm and 1,5 mm thick. Working width is about 128 cm. Our papers destined for your production processes or as finished products can be mineral free, extremely absorbent or highly waterproof.

With regard to purity we supply papers made from extremely pure cellulose from different types of trees and countries as well as cotton linters of the best quality, and in addition we use only raw fiber glass from extremely homogenous blends with < 1 µm fiber radius for our sophisticated fiber glass products.

Each kilogram of paper is produced using the purest spring water, no recycled water is used. Because of their purity our papers are used in the pharmaceutical, biochemical and genetic industries. Accredited laboratories attest to the extremely low mineral and heavy metal content of the papers.

They are chemically inactive. The mechanical composition of the surface can vary greatly; the surface can be additionally calendered, felt marked or creped, as well as coated with different materials, e.g. polyethylene.

Flexibility is high on our agenda. Depending on what the paper is to be used for we choose the best solution for you from our existing product portfolio. Or we can customize the paper by specifically pre-treating the cellulose fibres and by individually adjusting the paper machines to produce the paper with the desired properties. We develop tailor-made products under a non-disclosure agreement. We also offer exclusive papers.

Our competence enables us to manufacture papers with a multitude of different properties. For example:

  • highly voluminous and therefore absorbent papers that nevertheless possess a very high tear and wet strength
  • papers with a high tensile strength that are extremely stable both in cross direction and machine direction
  • soft, shock absorbent and pliant papers to guarantee that highly sensitive materials will not be damaged when they come into contact with the paper
  • papers with high temperature resistance
  • high density papers with an even, compact structure
  • product uniformity from one production batch to the next
  • The quality of raw materials used and our manufacturing processes ensure that age and light resistance are a given in our papers.

Our existing product portfolio and our potential for new developments encompass the following services:

  • minimum production batch of 1000 kg
  • 100% pure cellulose or 100% cotton linters, as well as specific blends
  • recycling material is not used
  • grammages range from 60 g/m² to 700 g/m² (unsized) and from 90 g/m² to 600 g/m² (stock sized)
  • this corresponds to a thickness of 0,1 mm to 1,5 mm (laminated even thicker)
  • width of rolls or sheets up to 128 cm
  • smooth surface, with felt markings or creped
  • surfaces can be laminated or coated with different materials, e.g. with PE
  • free of mineral compounds and heavy metals
  • acid free, pH neutral
  • low residual combustion
  • photo-chemically inactive
  • no radioactive radiation
  • soft and pliant, can be used as a protective and shock absorbent material
  • high tear and tensile strength
  • absorbent
  • high wet strength
  • high volume to absorb liquids
  • a variety of white tints or colours according to client specification
  • heat stable to 240 degrees for a limited period of time
