Hermes - Coating Mortars
Coating mortars are plastic to soft plastic in consistency. They are used for subsequent recoating of concrete, brickwork or reinforced concrete sections in all situations. The grain-size varies from 0.5mm to 4mm. Coating mortars are applied by hand or mechanically. They are also used for restoring or improving static strength or abrasive strength, raising corrosion resistance and creating a positive or negative seal against groundwater pressure. Often the thickness applied lies between 5 and 30 mm. When renovating, at least 8mm. Sewage treatment plants can be coated partially or entirely.
In new-build situations, a layer of sealant <3mm may be inserted under the coating layers; though this is exceptional, and is only used when creating a seal or sometimes when repairing a surface.
