Industrial wastewater treatment plant(etp plant) covers the mechanisms and processes used to treat waters that have been contaminated in some way by anthropogenic industrial or commercial activities prior to its release into the environment or its reuse of industrial wastewater.

Most industries produce some wet waste although recent trends in the developed world have been to minimise such production or recycle such waste within the production process. However, many industries remain dependent on processes that produce industrial waste treatment.

Water is an essential part of any food manufacturing plant. It is used as an ingredient, coolant, CIP solvent or in many other chemical based reactions in companies. After the completion of manufacturing process, this influent gets converted into wastewater which gets expelled from industry as a byproduct which is also known as effluent. This effluent is defined as a mixture of both toxic and non- toxic materials and it generally contains 99.9% water and 0.1% solids. The main task in treating the wastewater is simply to remove most or all this 0.1% of solids. Effluent cannot just be disposed of to the environment because of the harmful material it contains. Therefore, an effluent treatment plant comes into play. This is simply a procedure put in place to purify industrial wastewater to recycle it or dispose of it safely. Different companies have different wastewater composition and require slightly different effluent treatment plants.
