Interberg - Model KGL and KGM Range -Maintenance Free Valve Regulated NiCd Batteries
KGL (low rate) and KGM ( medium rate) range batteries are Valve Regulated and maintenance-free, as there is no need to add water throughout the service life of the battery (strictly following the manufacturer’s operation instructions). Servicing required is minimal and just a preventative maintenance will be needed. Water use and gas emissions are drastically reduced due to the more than 90% (exceeding requirements of IEC 62259).
GAS RECOMBINATION
The oxygen recombination technology and the pressure regulation with a safety valve are two of the main characteristics of these new ultra-low maintenance nickel-cadmium batteries. These batteries are ideal for especially critical applications, such as: telecommunication stations, railway signalling, railway and subway passenger coaches, metallurgy, mining, chemical and petrochemical industries, oil and gas pumping stations, refineries, etc., etc., since they guarantee the perfect functioning of the installations in emergency cases, thus complying with the fundamental requirement of minimum maintenance during operation. Thanks to the insignificant water consumption, these batteries will be able to operate during many years without the need to top-up water. Under certain conditions, topping-up water will not be necessary during the battery’s entire service life.
THE HIGHEST RELIABILITY
The positive and negative plates are of the well proven pocket and pasted plate Technologies. These plates do offer a very high mechanical strength, perfectly combined with the very high impact and shock resistance of the plastic-made cell container, firmly welded to the cell lids by means of automated machines especially designed for this purpose, to enable a perfectly sealing of the cells. The significant resistance to over-charge and over-discharge as well as to short-circuits are some other of the unbeatable characteristics of these ultra-low maintenance NiCd batteries.
VERY HIGH PERFORMANCE
The optimized design of the cells allows a very high performance in the most adverse and exigent ambient conditions, that make it possible for these cells to be able to perfectly operate under extreme temperature ranges from -50ºC to +70ºC, with a life expectancy higher than 25 years.
INTERNAL PRESSURE REGULATION
This valve operates at low pressure. When the pressure generated inside the cell exceeds the security value of 0.2 bar, the security device in the valve is automatically activated, enabling the excess oxygen and the hydrogen not used in the internal gas recombination in the negative electrodes is automatically expelled under controlled conditions. The valve is automatically close when the pressure inside the cell is restored to a value below the pre-determined activation or release value. This automatic closing function is of vital importance to avoid outside air to enter into the cell, what could produce carbonate formation either in the electrolyte or in the plates.
HIGH EFFICIENCY ON FLOAT CHARGE
The high performance active materials contained in the negative and positive electrodes do improve the charge efficiency, thus reducing the battery’s float voltage requirement. By operating at such low float voltage most of the battery’s capacity can be restored more efficiently. So, after 16 hour charge at 1.41 V +/- 0.01 V, 80 % of the battery capacity can be discharged
