Kathyon - Sand Filters
Sand filters primarily utilize multi-layered filter media such as quartz sand as the filtration medium, trapping larger particulate impurities in the water, such as suspended solids, silt, rust, and algae, through the gaps between the particles. Their core function is to clarify the water and reduce turbidity. They are typically used as a pretreatment unit to protect downstream precision equipment. As impurities accumulate in the filter bed, periodic backwashing is necessary to restore filtration performance.
Carbon filters use activated carbon as their core filter media. Activated carbon has a huge specific surface area and abundant pore structure, which can effectively remove odors, residual chlorine, some organic pollutants, and color from water through physical adsorption. In addition, it can also improve the taste of water. Activated carbon has a limited adsorption capacity and needs to be replaced with new activated carbon filter media after it becomes saturated.
