KES Separation - Offshore Mud Skip for Drilling Waste Management
The Offshore Mud Skip, also referred to as a drilling cuttings box, plays a crucial role in the environmental management of offshore drilling operations. Certified under DNV2.7-1 2017 and EN12079, these containers ensure that oil-based mud (OBM) cuttings, which are generated continuously during drilling, are securely stored and transported back to onshore facilities for proper treatment. Given the contaminants in OBM cuttings, discharging them into the sea is prohibited. Instead, they are transferred to thermal desorption units for thorough processing. If characterized by high oil content, these slops undergo initial oil recovery using sludge separation units before further treatment. Mud skips are integral to safe offshore operations, with customizable sizes and features such as aluminum roofs for ease of use and forklift-compatible designs for efficient transport. Offshore Drilling Cuttings Boxes, commonly called mud skips, are used during offshore drilling to ensure compliant handling of OBM cuttings. They are certified by DNV or LR and are crucial in maintaining environmental standards as they transport the cuttings back to shore for final treatment.

During offshore drilling, the OBM cuttings will be generated continuously. As the OBM cuttings is contaminate and is not allowed to discharge into the sea; the OBM cuttings can be shipped back to onshore through offshore mud skips. After that, the OBM cuttings with slops can be send to Thermal desorption unit for final treatment. If the OBM slops with high percentage oil, the OBM slops can go to Oil sludge separation unit to recover the oil first. After the oil recovery, the solids phase can go to Thermal Desorption Unit.
