KICAB (KIC Pump- och Slamteknik AB) was founded in 2003 by Bo Lindgren and Denny Wallberg.

Both have long experience in industrial and municipal pump and sludge applications. The purpose of the company was to offer, besides pumps, dewaterers and peripherals, a service beyond the ordinary with long-term commitments.

Among the customers of KICAB there are both municipal and industrial manufacturers, process industries and wastewater treatment plants. Equipment from KICAB is in many cases contributing to creating a cleaner environment for both people and nature. To minimize the environmental impact and contributing to a sustainable society is a natural and obvious part of KICAB’s commitment.

Delivering high quality products is also a part of the environmental work because long-term equipment is also reducing the environmental load. KICAB’s work with the quality and the environment should accordingly be considered as a single overall job.

1.2 Financial Standing
KICAB is owned and operated by Denny Wallberg. Both sales and results have increased yearly since the launching date.

1.3 Company
KICAB also has its own production, mainly of sludge thickeners, but also polymer and other sludge treatment equipment. Most of KICABs product range is mainly imported from well-known manufacturers in Europe.

KICAB always strives to create and maintain a long-term and a strong relationship with its suppliers.

Depending on the current law and regulations in the manufacturer’s country, environmental work is in different stages at the suppliers. However, it is becoming increasingly common with quality and environmental certifications. About 70 percent of KICABs suppliers are certified according to the ISO standard.

KICAB has its own design and construction team which ensures high quality of the products and gives the opportunity to produce tailor-made and efficient solutions for the customers. KICAB also has a well-equipped workshop that builds equipment from scratch. The workshop is also performing service, repairing and as well, resolving complaints.

The majority of KICABs customers are in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, but sales are also happening in the rest of the world.

1.4 Organization
KICAB’s work with quality and environment engages all employees, but to streamline and systematize the work, the following organization has been built up. Follow-up meetings are held twice a year or more if necessary.

2. Quality

KICAB strives to offer high and even quality in their products and services to gain confident in the market and thereby to create a long-term and good relationships with both suppliers and customers.

2.1 New products
All new products are carefully thoroughly tested and inspected to ensure high quality standards that covers both material and function before being part of KICAB’s product range. These tests and inspections are particularly carried out by the manufacturer and their quality control team.

2.2 Repair
Equipment or units taken to KICAB for repairing is carefully checked before returning it to the customer.

2.3 Complaints
It may happen that the delivered equipment do not meet the high standards that KICAB strives for. If it is determined that there is a manufacturing defect, the customer has of course full warranty and the product is replaced with a new, faultless product.

3. KICAB and the Environment

3.1 Waste disposal
In KICAB, there several factors that have effect on the environment, such as chemicals, oils and as well metal scraps. KICAB is of course following all the laws, rules and regulations that controls the activities and management of the waste that it brings. In addition, KICAB strives to follow the waste hierarchy¹ which means that all waste is handled and prioritized according to the following order:

1. Prevention
2. Reusing
3. Recycling
4. Energy recovery
5. Disposal

3.2 Production
Certain parts of KICAB is self-manufactured. It consists mainly of welding metal parts and assembly of machinery and engine parts. In the production, no environmentally hazardous substances are used and any kind of residual products is always handled according to the current guidelines and regulations.

At the workshop, all necessary protective equipment is easily accessible in the form of glasses, gloves, welding equipment, etc. Possible work with colors and paintings are done in a well-ventilated space. Colors used may be solvent-based due to the customer’s requirements of standard materials. Other chemical substances that is handled during the manufacturing process are, for example, oils and greases.

Grease separators are available and residual products are stored in special containers, which is indoors, to reduce the risk of leakage due to corrosion.

Product information sheets are available if it is required. These are kept in a folder next to the workshop for the staff to use.

3.3 Consumable Items
For copying and printing, KICAB has the policy to always use environmentally friendly Swan-labeled paper. Employees are also encouraged to save documents digitally and not to print of pure habit.

As a standard, KICAB uses a minimum of disposable materials and strives to purchase cleaning supplies and other consumables that is environmentally friendly.

3.4 Transport
KICAB attaches importance to coordinating and streamlining transport as far as possible. Most deliveries, both to and from KICAB, are done by truck. In particularly urgent cases, transport can also be done by flight, but this is rarely occurring.

Passenger transport is mostly carried out by a car because it is too time-consuming, and in many cases impossible due to a lot of luggage, for example, traveling by public transport.

By planning the traveling distance and destinations, KICAB is trying to do even these trips as transport-economically and environmentally sustainable as possible.

The development of environmentally friendly passenger cars is growing fast and when the company’s cars are replaced, cars with the latest technology and best environmental performance are always chosen.

4. The Future and KICAB

The work of the environment is rapidly moving forward and new environmental technologies and environmentally friendly solutions are constantly being presented, including within our industry. KICAB’s wishes and stated goals is to be a part of this process, even in the future.

It is in our firm belief that KICAB has a clear place in this industry by offering our customers solutions that reduces the environmental impacts on both land and nature.

The employees of KICAB, through training and study visits, are always kept informed and updated on the latest experience in pumps and sludge technologies to meet the demands of the future.
