Salzgitter - KRA Spherical Rain System for Heat Surface Cleaning
The KRA Spherical Rain System is an effective alternative to traditional sootblowers designed for safe and efficient cleaning of heating surfaces without the use of process steam. This system is particularly suitable for biomass and EBS combustion, waste incineration plants, and thermal oil plants. It operates by feeding soft iron balls, up to a maximum diameter of 8.0 mm, onto the boiler ceiling using an air flow. The balls then travel through the tube bundles in the boiler's convection pass. Afterward, the formed mixture of ash and balls is separated in a drum sieve, and the balls are recycled into the cleaning cycle. The spherical rain system is well-suited for vertical gas paths with horizontally oriented superheater or economizer bundles, even in non-aligned tube setups or larger bundle heights where other systems fail. It requires no additional media like steam or compressed air, making it ideal for smaller plants or those with limited steam availability. Advantages include: intensive cleaning of superheater heating surfaces, minimal space requirements compared to sootblowers, no need for additional process steam or compressed air, and reduced piping and cabling efforts compared to other cleaning systems.
Our shot rain system is used for cleaning the flue gas side of heating surface tubes in waste and biomass-fired steam boilers, in the area of the tube bundles in the superheater and economiser.
During operation, the ball rain system uses an air flow to transport soft iron balls up to a maximum diameter of 8.0 mm to the boiler roof and from there they are guided through the tube bundles of the boiler pass. Below the pass funnel, the resulting ash/ball mixture is then separated again in a sieve drum and the balls are fed back into the cleaning cycle.
The shot rain principle is not suitable for empty flues, but is excellent for vertical flue gas flues with horizontal superheater or economizer bundles. This also applies to non-aligned pipe arrangements or larger bundle heights where other systems can no longer be used!
No additional media such as steam or compressed air are required.
The balls run on the gravity circulation principle, making them IDEAL for smaller systems or systems in which the amount of steam available is limited.
- Safe and intensive cleaning of superheater heating surfaces
- Small space requirement! No lateral space reserve required, as with soot blowers
- No additional media requirement for process steam or compressed air
- less effort for piping and wiring than with other cleaning systems
