SHARE

The installation of waste water treatment systems on merchant ships, canal boats and naval vessels is a special challenge because strongly varying loads (e.g. due to changing numbers of passengers and crews) have to be considered. Moreover, for ecological reasons it is not allowed to use large-volume collecting tanks for the waste water produced.

Considering these requirements often interferes with the machine performance so that the required effluent quality of the treated waste water is only rarely reached. enviplan has faced this challenge and developed the ship`s waste water treatment plant S-KIM. By S-KIM, the waste water is treated by a fully biological process, the plant effluent has direct-discharger quality. S-KIM represents a compact and modular concept, consisting of the following treatment stages:

  • Coarse matter removal
  • AQUATECTOR Microfloat microflotation stage
  • Membrane treatment moduleThanks to the modular construction, S-KIM can be adapted to the individual needs of the customer and therefore offers high flexibility.

It is possible to install the system not only during the new construction of a ship, but also later. Installation can take place during regular stays in a shipyard. This procedure not only saves time, but it is also advantageous from the financial point of view because possible standstill of the ship is avoided.

The fully biological ship`s waste water treatment plant offers the following advantages:

  • Functioning even in the case of high waves
  • Reduction of the construction size of at least 50 % compared to conventional biological stages
  • Low germ content in the effluent without using chemicals
  • Recycling of waste water to get industrial water is possible
  • Minimal pumping expense
  • Integrated sludge collector
  • Modular construction for various requirements and upgrading of existing ships
  • Low need for servicing and nearly maintenance-free

The patented S-KIM concept is fully developed and has proved successful for many years in municipal and industrial waste water treatment plants as well as in process water recycling plants.

Because of its numerous technical and economic advantages, the Bundesamt für Wehrtechnik (Federal Agency for Defense Technology) has decided to upgrade its sailing school ship Gorch Fock by a module of the S-KIM series.

The compact galley water treatment plant purifies 2 m³/h at a weight of only 300 kg. In the enviplan works it was designed precisely for the ship`s hull.
