Gold APP - Model MIP-3600 -Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry
Mercury porosimetry is a method to measure the volume, pore size distribution and porosity of mesopore and macropore in solid materials. It is based on the non-wetting characteristic of mercury to general solids materials. Under the action of external pressure, mercury can enter the solid pores, the greater external pressure, the smaller pore size into which mercury can enter The order of mercury intrusion is first external then internal, first large pores then small pores. By measuring the volume of mercury injected under different pressures, the volume of the corresponding pore size can be known, further obtain the pore size distribution curve (the curve of the pore volume changing with the pore size, also known as porosity).
It meets ISO 15901-1 2005 (international standard) and GB/T 21650.1-2008.
During the measurement process. MlP-3600 calculates the volume of mercury pressed into the solid by monitoring the change of capacitance MlP-3600 is designed based on the principle of gravity difference. It avoids the experimental process when other types of mercury porosimeters measure less than 1 negative pressure. Thereby ensuring the continuity, integrity and reliability of the analysis data. MlP-3600 features: high pressure, wide measurement range good stability, small blank value high precision, simple operation, and accompanied by a computer realtime acquisition system.
- Mercury porosimetry is a method to measure the volume, pore size distribution and porosity of mesopore and macropore;
- Ability to measure pore sizes from as small as 30 nm to as large at 600 urn;
- Multiple configurations available to allow tailoring of instrument to user needs, in terms of number of analysis ports (1 or 2) as well as operating pressure range:
- Multiple analysis modes available to provide both rapid and detailed analyses
Working Principle and Structure
The MIP-3600 mercury porosimeter is based on the working principle of capillary pressure, using the non-wetting property of mercury to solid materials, and applying pressure to mercury under the action of external force. When the pressure is equal to the capillary force of the pore, mercury will overcome the resistance to enter the pore. Further, according to the pore volume percentage of the mercury entering and corresponding pressure, the capillary pressure curve of the rock and other characteristic parameters of the pore structure are obtained
The instrument is mainly composed of four parts: vacuum system, VMSC system (volume meters sample cell system), pressurization system, and control system. The vacuum pipe and sample cell containing mercury vapor are assembled in the work cabinet, separate from the operating table. Form a non-mercury operation space to protect the health of the staff.
Vacuum System
The vacuum system is to get the air in the sample cell, pipe and material, to form some negative pressure environment. This system mainly
consists of a 2x2-1 two-stage pump and vacuum pressure gauge. The minimum vacuum is 005Pa.
VMSC System {volume meter & sample cell system)
The VMSC system is composed of sample cell, volume meter, mercury botHe. and various control valves. The function of this system is to withstand high pressure and vacuum, has the characteristics of small blank value, high measurement accuracy and stability. The sample cell can be filled with materials: maximum diameter 025mm S length 30mm
The connection process uses gravity difference principle. It raises the position of the sample cell about 760mm. higher than the liquid level of the volume meter and the mercury bottle. Using the height difference, the pressure of the sample cell is lower than the mercury surface of the volume meter and the mercury bottle, by about 1 atmosphere So as to achieve the pressure detection is all carried out under positive pressure It overcomes the inconvenience of other types instruments measuring less than 1 atmosphere. It ensures the continuity, stability, reliability and integrity of the entire test.
Pressurizauon System
The pressure source is provided by a 100ml electric plunger pump, providing 0-50Mpa pressure for the process. The stepless speed governor
controls the speed and pressure/reduction.
Control System
The control system consists of three parts: pressure measurement, capacitance measurement, and vacuum measurement.
Data Acquisition System
The mercury porosimeter is connected to a computer, which with special operating software, to read, calculate and analyze all parameters.
