Polltech - Model PEM-MES 1-X -Metal Emissions Sampling Equipment
PEM-MES 1-X consists of a set of glass nozzles, a heated glass lined probe ( model PEM-HGLP 3 ), a heated filter box (model PEM-HFB2), an insulated PTFE sample transport tube and a sample collection equipment consisting of 6 or 7 glass impingers in an impinger box. The metering system for iso-kinetic sampling can be either be a manual kit ( PEM-SMK 10) or automatic kit (PEM SMS-4). The sample collection module can also be provided as add-on for an existing EPA method 5 sampling train.
Determination of metals emissions from stationary sources is carried out by US EPA Method 29. This method may be used to determine particulate emissions in addition to the metals emissions if the prescribed procedures and precautions are followed.
A stack sample is withdrawn isokinetically from the source, particulate emissions are collected in the probe and on a heated filter, and gaseous emissions are then collected in an aqueous acidic solution of hydrogen peroxide (analyzed for all metals including Hg) and an aqueous acidic solution of potassium permanganate (analyzed only for Hg).
The collection components consist of two sets of glassware called the front half and the back half.The front half comprises of a set of glass nozzles, a heated glass lined probe, front half of the filter holder with the filter.
