REB Research was founded in 1985 and is based in Oak Park, Michigan. Dr. Robert E. Buxbaum, then a professor at Michigan State University, founded the business to design, manufacture, and distribute cost-effective hydrogen generators and hydrogen purifiers. Dr. Buxbaum strove to make high-purity hydrogen an affordable laboratory product, and an energy-efficient, low-polluting compliment to more traditional energy sources like gasoline and diesel fuel.

REB Research has since developed many new products, including water-gas shift and reforming catalysts, hydrogen getters, furnaces, and hydrogen barrier coats. These products are time-tested and developed to the highest quality. Dr. Buxbaum also provides consulting services related to hydrogen separation and membrane reactors, allowing other companies to utilize his decades of industry experience and uniquely innovative approach.
