The key elements in the chemical makeup of the 204CU stainless steel pipe are chromium and manganese, therefore, also known as a chrome-manganese alloy. Copper and nitrogen are introduced in the alloy, in definite proportion. The role of copper in the pipe is to increase the resistance of the pipes against stress corrosion. Nitrogen further adds to the stability of the pipes and also to their strength and toughness. The non-magnetic physical property of the 204CU grade pipes enables their usage in the presence of active magnetic metals.
