The austenite 204CU stainless steel sheets are primarily composed of chromium and manganese with an addition of copper and nitrogen in definitive amounts. It is the presence of nitrogen that makes the sheet tough and resistant to corrosion. Copper on the other hand enables the sheet to operate and to be shaped under cold conditions which is a superior trait in the 200 series. The introduction of manganese in the alloy in place of a little amount of nickel, significantly improves the weldability of the alloy, making it adaptable to elevated temperature.
An important characteristic of the S20430 is that it can be used in moist, corrosive conditions since it displays excellent corrosion resistance properties. The resistance of the sheets against corrosion has garnered it wide range of applications and also allows it to be used in oxidative environments. Comprising copper as a constituent enables the sheet to be machinable and thereby, can be molded into different dimensions with utmost precision. These 204CU grade sheets act as bridges between the 200 and the 300 series in terms of cost. Its ability to withstand stress and rough conditions can be attributed to the toughness and heat hardening trait which it possesses.
The chrome-magnesium alloy displays an array of useful properties which further lead to it being used in various applications. Among these applications, baskets used in the tobacco industry, fasteners, water dispensers, architectural parts, etc. are a few out of the several others.
