The Dedicated Recirc System delivers hot water only when there is a demand:

  • Reducing Energy Costs &
  • Virtually Eliminating Pinhole Leaks

When the Flow Monitor detects a hot water demand the Pump Manager turns on the pump and rushes water out to where it is needed.

The Pump Manager will run the pump for approximately 1 minute to ensure that hot water is available throughout your home. (adjustable from 1 minute to 60 minutes)

Pump Technical Data:

  • Flow Range : 0 to 10 US gpm
  • Head Range : 0 to 20 US feet
  • Motor : Single phase, 115 vAC
  • Min. Fluid Temp. : 36° F (2° C)
  • Max. Fluid Temp. : 230° F (110° C)
  • Max. Working Pressure : 145 psi

Electrical Data:

  • Volts : 115 vAC
  • Watts : 93W
  • Amps : 0.81A
  • Electrical Connection : 10 foot cord; 115 vAC plug

Step 1.Inspect your water heater supply lines:

If the supply lines are old and inflexible they may need to be replaced.

Step 2.Turn off water heater:

Electric - turn off power by either unplugging the water heater or shutting off the appropriate breaker.

Gas, propane or heating oil - turn off water heater and make sure the pilot light is turned off.

Step 3.Turn off water:

Turn off the water to the water heater. In most cases there is a valve located above the water heater on the cold water supply line.

Step 4.Drain the hot water lines:

Turn on any hot water faucet in the house and let it run until the water stops flowing. Leave the faucet on for the duration of the installation. Drain remaining hot water using the hot water spigot on the water heater.

Note: If water continues to flow, check to make sure that the water has been completely turned off. If the valve does not shut off the water flow completely turn off the valve supplying water to the house or at the water meter.

Step 5.Disconnect the cold water supply line:

Unscrew the cold water supply line where the cold water comes in to the water heater (typically the right supply line.

Step 6.Install theFlow Monitor:

Make sure the gasket is inserted in the female end of theFlow Monitor.

Carefully thread the female end of theFlow Monitoron to the nipple coming out of the top of the water heater with the arrow pointing down (the direction of water flow). Do not over tighten.

Note:Flow Monitorwill not work properly if the arrow is pointing up. Make sure the arrow is pointing toward the female end (see picture). If it is not, remove the 4 screws and turn the black portion ofFlow Monitor180°. Reinsert screws and tighten.

Warning: do not over tighten.

Step 7.Re-connect the cold water supply line:

Screw hot water supply line onto theFlow Monitor.

Step 8.Remove existing pump:

Unplug and remove the existing circulation pump.

Step 9.Install new pump andPump Manager:

Install new pump in return line using 3/4" female fittings. We recommend using Shark Bite style fittings because they require no soldering and are very easy to use.

Optional ball valves can be installed on either side of the pump for ease of maintenance, if required.

Plug new pump into thePump Managerand plug thePump Managerinto a properly grounded 110 vAC outlet.

Note: Route the cord away from any vents on gas, propane or oil fired water heaters.

There are 2 toggle switches that control the speed of the pump and how it works. The first toggle is located in the power cord.

TheDedicated Recirc Systemdoes not use the wire connection. Set the toggle switch to II (2 bars) for continuous running.

Set pump toggle switch to III (3 bars) setting for the highest speed.

Step 10.Turn water back on:

Make sure that a hot water faucet is turned on in the house and then slowly turn the water back on to the water heater. Check for leaks and repair as necessary. Leave the water running until all of the air has been purged from the water pipes including all hose bibs. Turn off the faucet.

Step 11.Connect theFlow Monitor to thePump Manager:

Connect the low voltage wires from theFlow Monitorto thePump Managerusing the proper wire connectors. If extra length is required standard thermostat wire can be used.

Step 12:TestDedicated Recirc System:

Turn on any hot water faucet in the house for 1 second and turn it off. Pump should continue to operate for approximately 60 seconds after the faucet has been turned off.

Note: The 60 second timer will not start until all demand for hot water has ended.

Safety Warning

Risk of Electrical Shock
This pump is supplied with a grounding conductor. To reduce the risk of electrical shock, be certain that it is connected only to a properly grounded grounding type receptacle.

The safe operation of this pump requires that it be grounded in accordance with the national Electrical Code and local government regulations.

Operating Instructions
To activate the Dedicated Recirc System, simply turn on any hot water faucet in the house and quickly turn it off.

This will start the pump which will run for approximately 60 seconds. Typically it takes about 10 to 15 seconds to heat up the entire circulation line. Once the line is hot you will have hot water everywhere you want it.

The pump will shutoff approximately 60 seconds after the demand for hot water ends.

Installation Notes:
The Dedicated Recirc System can be used with both tank style water heaters and tankless water heaters. These instructions are for installation on a tank style water heater. Please refer to the appropriate manual for tankless installations.

A portion of the Dedicated Recirc System is installed in the hot water line on top of a tank style water heater. Failure to follow these instructions may lead to system failure and/or property damage. Although a plumber is not required to install the system familiarity with basic plumbing is necessary.
