Knapen - Moving-floor Trailer with Chopper Unit
Knapen Trailers has again supplied a moving-floor trailer with a chopper unit to a mushroom composting company. A moving floor combined with a chopper unit provides various benefits. Traditionally compost and casing soil are often transported using trailers with a conveyor belt so that unloading can take place with a constant feed. A modification by Knapen Trailers ensures that the moving-floor system also provides a constant unload. There are variable settings for the stroke distance and the speed of the moving floor, and the floor can even be slowed down while the return stroke is carried out at full speed. In this way the trailer unloads at a constant speed. Just like a belt unloader but with the robustness of a moving floor. Moreover, this trailer weighing 8,900 kg has a considerable weight advantage over a belt unloader.
In the chopper unit there are two or four chopper rollers that ensure an optimum structure for your product. The material is moved from the chopper rollers to an extendable conveyor belt using conveyor belts positioned sideways. The material can then be unloaded from this conveyor belt directly into the filling machine.
For many years there have been various designs with a chopper unit in use. Globally there are two designs available: one version with two chopper rollers for the transport of casing soil and one version with four chopper rollers for the transport of compost. The complete rear end of the trailer can be opened hydraulically so that the trailer can also be used for all kinds of product. Which means that you can also transport other types of bulk goods (such as return cargo) without any problems. This also makes the cleaning of the chopper unit simple.
