NOX enzymes are particularly suited to biocatalysis applications, as they do not employ substrates or generate products that complicate subsequent work-up, resulting in decreased cost and/or increased purity and yield. PRO-NOX(001) is particularly suitable enzyme for the regeneration of NAD⁺ and NADP⁺, as it produces water, rather than hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂), along with the oxidised cofactor (vide supra).  Hydrogen peroxide can inactivate or otherwise interfere with enzyme catalysed reactions, and would require removal using an additional enzyme such as catalase during scaled synthesis reactions.
