NipponModel WA-5A -Atmospheric Mercury Analyzer

SHARE

The WA-5A is atmospheric mercury analyzer that can be connected to the automatic sample changer (TC-WA) dedicated to mercury collector tubes. Based on the double-amalgamation method of the previous model, its design was totally renewed. The WA-5A is equipped with not only high-performance options which enable measurement of environment air and various gases (LPG/LNG, flue gas, etc.) in various matrices, but also a newly developed optical system as standard so that it can prevent loss of precious samples, thus, you can measure from low to high concentrations while the equipment automatically sets the measurement range.

The sample gas is collected into the mercury collector tube, and the tube is placed in the heating furnace of the WA-5A to start measuring. Mercury vaporized due to high temperature heating is scrubbed and dehumidified. Then, the mercury is collected as gold amalgam in the mercury collector tube for re-purification. This tube is re-heated to obtain atomic mercury of which concentration is measured by atomic absorption spectroscopy.

Also, you can directly inject the sample using a gas-tight syringe.

Newly developed technology

By adopting newly developed technology, new functions are added to this model.

  • The automatic sample changer dedicated to mercury collector tubes (for 30 samples) makes analysis efficient.
  • By using a new optical system, you can measure from low to high concentrations (up to 1,000 ng) while the equipment automatically sets the measurement range.
  • Detection lower limit of 1 pg is achieved.
  • There is no need to prepare special gas or high pressure cylinders. (Ambient indoor air is purified and used as carrier gas, so the economical efficiency and safety are ensured.)
  • You can measure samples directly from Tedlar® Bags or high pressure gas cylinders.

In accordance with “Manual for hazardous air pollutants measuring method” in Japan

This equipment complies with “How to measure mercury in the atmosphere” in the “Manual for Hazardous Air Pollutants Measuring Method” established by the Ministry of the Environment. It simply and quickly measures gas-borne mercury in the form of gold amalgam collected in the mercury collector tube.

WA-5A or 5F can be coupled with TC-WA 30-positions tube autosampler. Sampling tubes are set in TC-WA for unmanned fully automated tube desorption, 2nd-amalgamation and measurement on WA-5. Manual direct injection via gas-tight syringe is also possible.
