Dolphin - Model 6201 -Obstacle Avoidance Sonar for AUV and ROV Navigation
The Dolphin 6201 Obstacle Avoidance Sonar is engineered specifically for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) and Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) navigation. It offers versatile connection options with control via Ethernet for AUVs and either Ethernet or VDSL for ROVs. This sonar system is equipped with real-time continuous scanning capabilities over a 120-degree sector, with selectable options for 90 or 60 degrees. Its acoustic range extends up to 200 meters, enabling it to track up to 250 targets simultaneously. The sonar supports depth ratings of 4000m or 6000m as an option, making it suitable for various underwater applications. The system's imaging and tracking software, operable on Windows, generates images and navigational messages to prevent collisions within a configurable avoidance corridor, enhancing the safety of underwater operations.
The Dolphin Model 6201 Obstacle Avoidance Sonar has been specifically engineered for A.U.V. and R.O.V. navigational applications.
When fitted to an AUV the control of the 6201 sonar is via Ethernet passed directly to the host computer. For ROV applications the use of either Ethernet or VDSL is available.
The Imaging software running under "Windows" produces images as shown on the right. In AUV applications the tracking software provides navigational messages to avoid targets that are detected within the configurable avoidance corridor.
- Real Time continuous scanning over 120° sector or selectable 90° / 60°
- 200m acoustic range
- Track up to 250 targets
- Ethernet or VDSL as standard
- Optional 4000m or 6000m depth rating
- Configurable Avoidance Corridor to suit AUV requirement
The resolution and update speed of the Dolphin Obstacle Avoidance Sonar sets a new performance benchmark for Autonomous Vehicle Navigation. The rugged compact underwater unit can be easily integrated into the nose-cone of the A.U.V. and is rated up to 4000m or 6000m operational depth. The system software is able to track up to a maximum of 250 discrete acoustic targets.
Each target is assigned an I.D. number and then monitored for range and bearing for each data frame until it disappears from view.Targets that appear along the avoidance corridor in front of the vehicle are analysed for a potential collision hazard and appropriate avoidance messages are then output. By connecting a P.C. on the surface to the Ethernet output, the raw image data from each frame may be viewed using a Windows program.
