The QTM-701 measures and displays the effect of contamination on the dielectric constant of the oil. Soiling is usually caused by oxidation, water, acids, antifreeze, metal particles or fuel.

Why should you test your oil regularly?

When an engine is running, the lubricating oil is exposed to high temperatures and extreme pressures. There is normally an atmosphere in the crankcase that promotes oxidation processes. A large number of impurities penetrate the oil circuit. While some impurities behave “passively”, others are chemically active and cause undesirable reactions.

The physical and electrochemical properties of the oils are crucial for their lubricity. For this reason, measurements of the oils used should be carried out several times to determine the current condition. This means that lubrication problems in the engine can be identified in good time. An important statement about the condition of the oil is its dielectric constant, which the tester shows.
