OpenCell - Startup Lab
The perfect lab to get started! Start Labs are made for early-stage biotech startups or those that only need 1-4 people in the lab. As a member, you`ll enjoy all the BioHotel perks, such as being able to book into the Automation lab, Diagnostic Suite and Imaging Suite with Tissue Culture Lab. BioHotel labs are designed with startups in mind, and can scale alongside your business. As your workflow progresses, we can add on adjacent labs to expand your operation. Our lab design is based on meticulous studies of the end-to-end in-lab experience to fully optimise the space you have.
You'll enter a BioHotel lab through the dedicated gowning room - a negative air pressured section of the lab which gives you space to get yourself ready for the day with a freshly laundered lab coat and shoe coverings. In this handy little nook, you'll also find a glass wash and sanitisation station. Featuring a sink, glassware drying rack, managed waste facilities, and massive amounts of additional storage above the sink.
Once you're suited and booted, you'll take your first steps into your own private Start Lab. Whether you're working on innovations in tissue culture, synthetic biology, diagnostics or therapeutics, we will work with you to set up your lab so you have the right kit. We’ll make sure our IoT sensors are all hooked up to our Lab Operating System for data collection and monitoring and this way you'll be able to access real-time data on your experiments at any time, from anywhere.
With up to 12.8m of workbench space at your disposal, we'll help you make the most of it with our fully configurable, and adaptable equipment units. Our in-house design team will work with you to build and organise your lab to suit your protocol and needs
Your workbench is a large (1400mm x 650mm) Trespa tabletop, with a magnetic backboard for mounting accessories and keeping tools to hand, an adjustable equipment shelf with power supply to house all of your small pieces of equipment (vortexes, mini centrifuges etc), large pull-down cabinets to house all of your media, reagents, equipment, consumables and more.
Knowing that every bit of space in your Start Lab is valuable real estate, we've designed our equipment units to be modular so as your protocols develop or change, you can swap them in and out for more bench space.
Watts more… in a BioHotel lab, you’ll never run out of plugs again! We’ve kitted our labs with sockets galore, thoughtfully located above your workbench so that you never need to worry about tangled cables again.
And like any 5-star hotel, all the housekeeping is taken care of. At the touch of a button, we'll look after all your chemical, clinical and general waste, glassware washing and autoclaving, as well as any used lab coats
