OpenOcean - Model Force12 Xplorer -Autonomous Sailboat
Force12 Xplorer is an autonomous sailboat that uses the wind to move and solar energy to power its computers and sensors. Powered by entirely renewable energy sources, it can travel on the ocean for months at a time collecting ocean and environmental data using its suite of sensors. It sends that information back in real-time through secure communication systems and clients can control the USV from anywhere in the world using our user portal. Designed for travelling on the open ocean and with a customizable platform for multiple sensor integration, it offers the ability to understand our oceans in a whole new way. This USV is currently in testing and you can contact us for more details.

Ease of Use
- Force12 Xplorer is easy to transport and deploy. At only 2.5 meters in length and 50 kg in mass, it can be carried by two people, and launched from a pier, boat launch ramp or a large ship with a single attachment point. It drives autonomously to its mission site, which could be in the middle of the ocean or just offshore, and when the mission is done, it comes back home for retrieval.
- This USV was made to endure the unforgiving conditions of the ocean. The hull and keel design offer optimal stability and self-righting capabilities, so that it can endure the most severe weather conditions, including hurricanes. The rigid wingsails can endure persistent extreme wind speeds without the damage inflicted on cloth sails and their buoyancy assists with self-righting.
- Designed for maximum performance in a range of conditions, Force12 Xplorer travels well in both light winds and stormy weather. Its twin sails enable it to maximize the points of sail – the relative wind direction to which the boat can make progress – allowing it to travel well in winds coming from most directions. This enables it to provide superior control and excellent speeds in a range of conditions.
- Capable of travelling continuously for up to a year, Force12 Xplorer offers the opportunity to collect data for an extended period of time and voyage to the most remote parts of our oceans. Propelling by its dual rigid wingsails, it uses solar power for sensors, computers, and communication systems and is not limited by refuelling. Components are all designed to be maintenance free for extended periods and superior anti-fouling methods reduce the impact of biofouling on the USV and sensors.
