SHARE

Paraformaldehyde is a linear, low-molecular polymerisation product of Formaldehyde and is obtained as granular, solid material with a Formaldehyde content of usually about 92%. Paraformaldehyde is used for the same applications as Formaldehyde itself, yet is preferred whenever almost water-free operation or special control of the reactivity of the introduced Formaldehyde is desired.

According to the MEISSNER process, Paraformaldehyde is produced by careful reconcentration of aqueous Formaldehyde solutions, followed by controlled polymerisation and solidification. For the latter, either belt driers or spray drying units are used, depending on the envisaged plant capacity. The MEISSNER process enables the production of Paraformaldehyde with a Formaldehyde concentration of up to 96% and with optimum reactivity and storage characteristics.
