Paralleling Control

The paralleling controls that have been utilized over the past ninety-eight years have included simple rheostat speed controls with Silverstat voltage regulators through the analog automated controllers and now into the digital age of controls. Our latest controls employ the Compass Control System as its’ touchscreen-based operator interface which provides enterprise visibility as well as significant operational redundancy. We employ the power of PLCs for our start-stop generator control and monitoring interfaces which enables us to provide significant retrofitting capabilities for existing assets and infrastructures.

Our controls implementations are not limited to any particular type of motive-driven methodology. We can apply our paralleling gear to medium or low voltage systems, island or intertie, co-generation, open or closed-transition automatic transfer systems with unlimited priority load acquisition/load shed. We have developed advanced algorithms for our load acquisition/load shed controls which greatly minimize impacts to loads due to overloads of the generation capacities. The system provides a separate control section for each generator and a totalizing control section for the summarized monitoring and control of the system.

  • Open and Closed Transition transfer schemes
  • Island, Co-generation, multiple-sourced main-tie-mains, standby systems
  • Generator soft loading and unloading
  • Multiple-voltage system can be operated concurrently from a single point of control
  • Lead-lag alternating controls to equalize generator run times
  • Systems can base-load necessary units to optimum performance with “last unit throttling” controls
  • Load bank controls integrated into the generator and paralleling controls for system testing and exhaust scrubbers for air-quality controls compliance
  • A graphical touchscreen interface for local operators to monitor and interact with the control system components
  • Includes embedded staklite annunciation so that device status, including minor and major alarm events, are visible for all devices throughout the system
  • Capabilities can be extended to include multi-site enterprise monitoring
  • Can be viewed by any user anywhere in the facility, campus, enterprise or the world using any choice of browser
  • Can be viewed by multiple, simultaneous users, any with the ability to view individual views of the system
  • Incorporates multi-level and multi-user security measures that have been designed to meet governmental security requirements
  • Hardware utilizes state of the art componentry with engineered passive cooling and non-rotational hard disk drives
  • Expenses only a single IP address for communication connection to the clients’ intranet
  • Hardware and software is site licensed and has NO client-side software or licensing which removes the frustration of traditional client access or version problems
  • Metered elements are continuously trended so that the data is formatted for further analysis
  • All system events and alarm conditions are supported with alarm acknowledgement and reset capabilities included. Easy to understand color coding coupled with status descriptions makes the event logs simple to navigate and operate
  • Ever-vigilant proactive communications monitoring that reports errors before they become system-effectiveness issues
  • Controls and Switchgear retrofit of existing conditions is our specialty
  • Front-end engineering design support is available. Turn-key installation is available to ensure that full-spectrum quality is maintained throughout the project
