Permanganate In-Situ Chemical Oxidation (ISCO)
ISOTEC's permanganate process utilizes either potassium permanganate (KMnO4) or sodium permanganate (NaMnO4) for in-situ chemical oxidation (ISCO). The reaction mechanism associated with both reagents is similar and particularly effective at treating aqueous concentrations of perchloroethene (PCE) and trichloroethene (TCE) in environmental remediation projects. ISOTEC's permanganate-based reagents are designed for both independent usage and in combination with other ISOTEC's reagents (e.g. modified Fenton's reagent, persulfate reagent).

The reaction mechanism associated with our permanganate process is shown below:
MnO4- + 4H+ + 3e- ↔ MnO2 + H2O
Where:
- MnO4-- = Permanganate (Sodium or Potassium)
- H+ = Hydrogen ion
- e- = Electrons
- MnO2 = Manganese Dioxide
- H2O = Water
