Phytophthora spp. is a serious fungus-like (Oomycete) pathogen of which there are many species, affecting numerous plant hosts. Diseases caused by this pathogen include ramorum blight, potato late blight, tomato late blight, dieback and sudden oak death.
The Pocket Diagnostic® Phytophthora rapid test kit has been independently validated using the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection (EPPO) standards.
Phytophthora features on the UK Plant Health Risk Register and the European and Mediterranean Plant Protection Organisation (EPPO) A2 List of pests recommended for regulation as quarantine pests.
Finally, it is important to note that if an outbreak of Phytophthora is discovered in the UK and Europe it is the responsibility of the person who discovers the outbreak to inform the relevant local or national plant pathogen authorities. No legal action will be taken upon discovery of Phytophthora. The authorities only require notification in order to advise and help with containing the disease.
