Piccolo - Model ATX -Asset Tracking Device
A cost effective solution for Container and Asset tracking.
Mode of Operation
Programmable to send the GPS location every XX hours (usually once a day) when the asset is stopped. When vibration is detected, the unit wakes up automatically and sends an alarm, then switches to motion mode sending GPS every YY minutes for as long as the asset is in motion mode (usually every 60 minutes).
Main Features
- Extremely low power consumption achieved by innovative battery management to preserve battery life
- Theft protection, automatically wakes up and sends alarm on vibration detection
- Over the Air (OTA) configuration via SMS
- USB port for firmware download and configuration
- Optional one dry contact IO event or open loop detection that wakes up the unit and sends an alarm
- Optional 0-5V analog input sensor powered by an external power source controlled by the Piccolo ATX
- Configuration and software download via USB port
- USB port powers the unit during configuration and testing
- Integrated internal analog temperature sensor sends unit temperature with every GPS data transmission
- High accuracy achieved with SIRF Star IV Integrated 48 satellite channel GPS technology
- Highly compressed UDP communication packaged with API’s, DLL or HTTP interface for quick “Plug & Play“ integration into any third party software, recommended for .NET platforms
- Or direct TCP/IP communication OTA, (no Middleware) is packaged with “Plug & Play“ APIs or DLLs for quick integration into any third party application
- Store and forward – the unit can store up to 5000 events when out of cellular coverage then send them automatically when back in cellular coverage
- OTA Diagnostic – via Wireless Links proprietary application and communication software
- Optional external GPS and/or cellular antenna
- Sends battery level with every GPS data transmission
Note: The number of GPS messages transmitted by the Piccolo ATX is affected by the quality of the cellular reception and the unit having a clear view of the sky for quick GPS data acquisition. The longer it takes for the unit to register on the cellular network and/or the longer it takes to synchronize with the GPS satellites, the more battery power is consumed. Under normal conditions, the GPS synchronization and the cellular authentication should take about 2 minutes.
Optional IO - dry contact open loop

Piccolo ATX - Solar Panel Operated
The Piccolo ATX is operated by Solar Panel that charges up to 3 rechargeable 1800 mAh lithium batteries at 60 mA in full sunlight. When fully charged, each battery can transmit around 1300 GPS positions for a total of around 3900 GPS positions when equipped with 3 batteries. The unit is also equipped with a power supply for fast charge. It is recommended to fully charge the batteries with a wall powered (110-220VAC) 5VDC regulated power supply. Also, the ATX can be charged from a car battery via the cigarette plug or via the USB port. For links on where you can find such a power supply in your local market, please view the Piccolo ATX installation manual.
