Vobis - Pilot Falling Film Evaporator
Vobis Pilot Falling Film Evaporators enable clients to separate small kilogram quantities to several thousand kilograms per hour of water or solvent from their product to develop a process which is scalable to even larger scale production. Our Single and Multiple Effect production systems enable efficient production of client products from hundreds to tens of thousands of liters per hour. Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR) or Thermal Vapor Recompression (TVR) can be incorporated in the single effect Falling Film System to enhance thermal efficiency and increase cost effectiveness of the system. In addition, our Multiple Effect Evaporator systems can also incorporate mechanical vapor compression or thermal vapor compression capabilities for added energy efficiency beyond the reduced energy use advantages of the multiple effect design.
- Single or Multiple Effect
- Mechanical Vapor Compression/Recompression (MVR)
- Thermal Vapor Compression/ Recompression (TVR)
All of our Falling Film Evaporators work via the same general process: raw material is fed through the proprietary optimized distribution system, to the top of the heating tubes or plates, and is evenly distributed as a continuous film on the inside walls of the tubes. The fluid distributor system design is carefully engineered to ensure an even liquid distribution. A thin, generally turbulent flow of the liquid film spirals down the inside of the tubes or walls, coating the entire surface for excellent heat transfer. Vapor and liquid are separated in a separate vessel where entrainment is minimized.
For heat-sensitive products with low to medium viscosities:
- Short residence time in the tubes or plates minimizes heat exposure.
- Operation under vacuum lowers the boiling point of the volatile component.
For efficient operation:
- Optimized liquid feed distribution to our falling film tubes helps to create high heat transfer coefficients.
- Low pressure drop minimizes fouling.
- Automated PLC process controls for operational variables, including temperature, vacuum, and feed rate, insure accurate control and reproducible results.
- Minimum material inventory requirement provides for flexible operation, quick start-up, and easy changeover among different products.
For high evaporation loads:
- These can be readily accommodated.
For fully wetting the complete length of the wall surfaces in the tubes:
- Recycling of liquid can be implemented when necessary.
Allen Bradley or Siemens PLC control systems are typically implemented to accurately and reproducibly control our falling film evaporation systems.
Skid mounting or modularization allows easy installation as well as ready access to all piping, pumps, control elements, and process vessels.
