Pulsar - Model 14 -Digital Noise Meter for Noise Level Testing
The Model 14 Digital Noise Meter is an easy-to-use, low-cost Class 2 sound level meter for quick sound level checks. It measures A- and C-weighted noise using Fast time weighting and includes two measurement ranges for basic noise level testing and spot checks. The Model 14 Digital Noise Meter is a low-cost, Class 2 digital noise meter designed for quick, accurate sound pressure level measurements. It measures A-weighted and C-weighted sound levels using Fast time weighting and offers two measurement ranges, 35 to 100 dB(A) and 65 to 130 dB(A), covering the typical sound levels encountered during basic noise measurements.
Accurate, compliant Class 2 noise meter
The Model 14 meets the requirements of IEC 61672-1:2002 Class 2, ensuring accurate performance for basic noise assessments. It measures instantaneous sound pressure level (SPL) and includes a Max Hold function for capturing the highest level during a measurement.
Straightforward operation for basic noise level testing
With its clear LCD display and simple slide-switch controls, the Model 14 Digital Noise Meter makes taking noise measurements quick and straightforward. Lightweight and simple to operate, it is suitable for common noise measurement tasks such as machinery checks, alarm verification, vehicle noise spot checks and quick workplace noise assessments. Under-range and overload indicators help ensure measurements are taken within the correct range.
The Model 14 Digital Noise Meter can be purchased on its own or as a complete kit that includes the meter, a Class 2 acoustic calibrator, and a carrying pouch.

The sections below outline the basic operation of the Model 14 Digital Noise Meter. For full instructions, please refer to the user manual.
Starting a Measurement
Switch the Model 14 on by moving the OFF/F slide switch to the F position. The meter is now active and ready to measure sound levels. Select A or C weighting and Fast or Slow response using the slide switches to suit your measurement.
Display and Indicators
The LCD screen shows the current sound level in decibels. A green light indicates the sound is below range, and a red light shows it is above range. The MAX HOLD feature can freeze the highest reading until it is reset or the meter is turned off.
Calibration Check
Set the meter before calibrating: turn OFF/F to F, set L/H to L, set A/C to A, and make sure Max Hold is not active. Fit a MODEL106 acoustic calibrator to the microphone at 94 dB, 1 kHz. Adjust the calibration potentiometer with the supplied screwdriver until the display reads 93.7 dB(A).
The Model 14 Digital Noise Meter is ideal for quick spot checks, installation testing, and basic noise surveys. It’s particularly useful for fire alarm and audible warning system testing, where the Max Hold function makes it easy to capture the loudest sound level during a test.
Workplace Noise
In workplace environments, the Model 14 provides a fast and reliable way to check machinery or process noise levels without the complexity of a full occupational noise assessment. It helps identify areas where noise may approach action levels so that further measurements or controls can be planned using more advanced equipment.
Environmental Noise
The Model 14 Digital Noise Meter is ideal for basic environmental noise checks and general nuisance investigations. With its wide measurement range starting at 35 dB(A), it’s suitable for checking background noise and assessing common environmental noise sources, such as road traffic, passing trains, and general activity in the surrounding area.
Classroom Noise
In educational settings, the Model 14 enables staff to quickly and easily monitor noise levels. It’s ideal for identifying classrooms or areas where noise may interfere with concentration or teaching, helping schools take practical steps to create calmer learning environments.
Construction Noise
On construction sites, the Model 14 Digital Noise Meter offers a simple way to check that equipment, tools, or activities remain within acceptable limits. Its portability makes it ideal for supervisors who need to conduct regular spot checks and monitor noise levels across the site.
Hospital Noise
The Model 14 can help teams in hospitals and healthcare settings identify sources of unwanted noise that may affect patient recovery or staff wellbeing. It’s ideal for quick checks around wards and corridors, helping ensure that noise levels remain comfortable and within recommended limits.
Office and Call Centre Noise
In offices and call centres, the Model 14 Digital Noise Meter provides an easy way to assess background and equipment noise. Highlighting problem areas where sound levels are too high for effective communication supports a healthier, more productive workspace.
Vehicle Noise
The Model 14 is perfect for basic vehicle noise checks. It can be used to verify the sound output of engines, exhaust systems, or other components during maintenance or inspection, helping confirm that noise levels remain within acceptable limits.
