Raille - Spark Detection Systems
Spark detection systems typically use water curtain extinguishers to prevent the spread of ignition sources through dust extraction ducts and bulk handling conveyors. The extinguishers generate a dense curtain of water spray across the extraction duct when a spark is detected and are positioned so that the curtain of water will be at full spread and density by the time the ignition source reaches it. The water curtain creates a barrier to prevent the ignition sources passing that point, but only sprays for a few seconds when sparks are detected so can be used in most materials and processes.
Raille also supplies alternative extinguishing systems such as water mist, foam and CO2 which may be better suited to extinguishing fires in certain machinery and certain materials. The face of the nozzle is installed almost flush with the inside wall of the extraction duct or drop chute, so it does not interfere with material flow. The spring loaded shutter seals the face of the nozzle when not spraying, to prevent the water path becoming blocked. Available in 1-nozzle and 2-nozzle configurations for standard applications and in combinations for larger capacity extinguishing systems. ATEX approved for use in zone 20 explosive atmospheres. Spark detection systems require a guaranteed supply of high pressure water and so Raille manufactures a range of water pump stations, designed for this purpose. The range starts with a compact and low cost unit, to supply a small spark detection system, but equipped with advanced self test and fault diagnosis features to ensure continued reliability. The picture shows a pump station for a recycling plant, able to supply 2,000ltr of water per minute, with the pressure constantly between 7 and 9 bar.
