Poul Tarp - Registration of the Household Waste Collection
FromPoul Tarp A/S
We see 5 typical methods for registration of collection of household waste. The good old way where the driver has a paper list of the route showing maybe the size of the bin and the type of the product. It might say if collection is weekly or every second week. If the operator can`t empty a bin, he or she might write a message to the citizen and give a copy of the message to the office where the message afterwards might be registered. A message might be sent from the haulier to the municipality. Typically all registrations are done manually and on paper.

- GPS based registration. All route and emptying information is sent automatically to the computer in the waste truck. All emptying sites are linked to a GPS position. Based on the GPS positions the most optimal route is generated. All information is shown on the TOC truck computer and deviations is registered straight away electronically. GPS trace and data communication from the trucks is available in "real time" at the office. When the waste truck has passed a GPS position it is assumed that the bins linked to this position has been emptied. The bins shall of course be attached to the route of the day. NB: As a more simple variation of this solution we also deliver a pure GPS tracking solution where only the positions of the truck during the day is registered.
- RFID Tag based registration. Same possibilities as GPS based registration but here there is a 100% safe documentation that an emptying of a bin has taken place since an electronic registration of an RFID tag mounted on the bin is performed.
- RFID tag based registration with weight registration. Used if you want to know the amount (kg) of waste collected from a citizen or company in order to monitor amounts collected or in order to charge collections based on weight.
- Registration of weight with GPS. This is a combination of solution 2 and 4 where RFID tags is not wanted but a registration of the weight of each emptied skip or bin is needed. This method is widely used for collection of industrial waste but also for collection of waste from apartment houses and underground waste containers if there is a need or a wish for knowing the weight of each collection.
