Rypos - Model ADPF -Active Diesel Particulate Filter Power Generation
The experienced team at Rypos approaches every stationary project with the goal of achieving a strong collaboration between the end user, the facility design team, the environmental consultants and the regulatory authority in developing the optimal solution for the operating profile.
Beginning early in the design process, the sales and technical team seek to provide:
- This cradle to grave approach allows Rypos customers complete peace of mind in operating their mission-critical backup generators and pumps.
- Complete presentation on the regulatory compliance, technical capabilities and operating advantages of the Rypos technology.
- Consultative review of the project requirements to ensure that specifications are appropriate and complete.
- Participation in the environmental review to ensure all regulatory requirements are addressed.
- Preliminary product design documentation outlining the available product options and associated budgetary costs.
- Engineering drawings and computer-aided design models to allow the facility design personnel to rapidly develop installation concepts.
- Detailed proposals describing product to be supplied and installation specifics that must be supplied by others.
- Rapid turn around of product submittals to support the higher level system submittals to the end user.
- Submittal adjustments as required in a timely manner.
- Technical support to the facility design team as they seek permits and approvals for mission-critical systems
- Installation support and final commissioning of the delivered systems.
- Training and follow up support to the end user.
- Periodic inspections, health checks and preventive maintenance as required by the customer.
- Exceptional long term product support for installed systems.
- Upgrades and service packages to ensure optimal performance and extended regulatory compliance.
Diesel Emergency Power Generators encounter increasing difficulty complying with the scores of Local and Federal emissions requirements.
The standard solutions offered by the existing on-road market suppliers have proven to be maintenance intensive, and detrimental to the engines. Standard solutions all require heat in the exhaust stream to keep excessive restriction in the after-treatment devices from derating and/or damaging the engines.
With exhaust heat being a function of engine load, Emergency Power Generators are at risk of failure, as they are typically only run during scheduled exercising, without load.
Often engines are oversized - as they are specified to support all facility loads in case of emergency - along with headroom for future expansion. The oversized engines make the facility loads during the actual outage insufficient in providing the exhaust heat required - resulting in engines unable to carry the load, which ultimately leads to engine failure.
Rypos’ patented technology enables the Active Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) to maintain low back-pressure on the engine, regardless of exhaust temperature. This allows facilities full flexibility in how they choose to operate - without concerns over the after-treatment devices damaging the Emergency Power System - while seamlessly complying with the ever-changing regulations.

The Active DPF is made from sintered metal fibers, these segmented filters are electrically regenerated (or cleaned) by heating to 700°C and incinerating the trapped soot containing toxic contaminate particles. The system’s microprocessor control monitors filter back pressure, temperature, and elapsed time between regenerations to optimize regeneration cycles and maximize filter efficiency and generator availability. Entirely automated, the regeneration cycle takes only three minutes and uses less than one percent of the generator’s electrical output. Rypos` segmented filter design makes this rapid, extremely energy efficient cleaning possible. By limiting each cycle to a single filter element, regeneration can be performed quickly with no impact on power availability from the generator. The built-in control system tracks which segments recently have been cleaned and schedules which ones are due to be cleaned.
The Active DPF systems can also be configured with selective catalytic reduction (SCR) to achieve NOx reductions of 95% or more.
The filter medium is sintered metal fiber material with high soot holding capacity and is capable of capturing the very fine particles in the exhaust system. The proprietary filter material is designed specifically for removing PM10 and PM2.5 from the diesel exhaust.
The filter cartridge contains the sintered metal fiber filter elements. This nonwoven matrix can tolerate thermal expansion and contraction.
