SaalastiModel Hippo 1803 -High-Pressure Press

SHARE

An innovative high-pressure press SP 1803, also known as Hippo, offers high drying efficiency and huge energy-saving potential. Squeeze more profit from wood. Saalasti High-Pressure Press 1803 is a new-generation press based on mechanical dewatering capability. Press dramatically reduces the moisture content of organic fiber-based biomasses such as wood chips and sawdust. The press suits many industries where fiber-based biomass requires an energy-efficient drying method. For example, pellet plants, pulp and paper mills, power plants, and panel board operators can use the machine in their drying process. Our robust machines are made to operate trouble-free. Many Saalasti Presses have been in use continuously since the 1980s and 75% of the presses are still in operation.

What if your plant could raise its capacity or wood fibers’ caloric value without additional investments and excess thermal power investment? That is possible with Saalasti Press 1803. The machine is extremely energy efficient and offers long-time OpEx savings on energy costs.

Thanks to the new technology and modular structure, you do not need to invest more in heat production, which offers huge saving potential. The machine also offers the possibility to increase capacity modularly by adding machines in the same line.

The press not only reduces the moisture content but also makes the whole thermal process more efficient with more homogeneous raw material.

In the process, wood chips are partly crushed, which increases the evaporation surface. This makes the whole thermal drying process more efficient.

High-pressure drying has many benefits:

  • A steady downstream process with fewer failures.
  • Moisture content stays stable.
  • No seasonal fluctuation, as the dried material is more stable and homogenous.
  • Higher quality of the material: Resistant to impurities in feedstock material.
  • Pre-crushed material reduces the wear in hammer mills and pellet presses.

In the squeezing process, also half of the suspended solids are removed. This reduces the amount of CO2 and volatile organic compounds (VOC) in the air. When so-called blue haze emissions are minimized, the process is more environmentally friendly and safe for your employees.

With the press, you can also reduce or eliminate the use of fossil fuels as a biofuel – and save money and the environment.

The drying process reduces energy use and CO2 emissions.

  1. Extremely efficient drying process.
    • The machine removes up to half of the water and drastically improves material quality.
  2. Saves energy while adding capacity.
    • You can increase production without excess thermal power investment. Mechanical drying is even 10-30 times more energy efficient than thermal drying.
  3. Reduces blue hazes and other air emissions.
    • This improves employee safety.
  4. Stable operation year-round.
    • Eliminates seasonal fluctuations, i.e. production drops even in the winter season.
  5. Original spare parts available.
    • We deliver high-quality spare parts around the world with fast delivery.
  6. Low lifecycle and maintenance costs.
    • Automation and smart operation are cost-efficient. For example, the press decreases hammer mill energy consumption and wear.
  • Robust design for continuous operation
  • Unit capacity 4 BDT/h (8 ART @50% MC) and dewatering max 40% MC with sawdust
  • Unit capacity 5 BDT/h (10 ART @50% MC) and dewatering max 38% MC with wood chips
  • Unit weight 38 metric tons
  • Footprint 8.3 x 3.0 x 4.7 m
  • Modular design: Possibility to increase capacity modularly by adding machines in the same line
  • Infinite rebuild ability
  • A simple user interface, fast starting process, and low transportation cost
