Sand Filtration For Drinking Water

SHARE

BW is a continuous sand filter developed in collaboration with customers and is used, among other things, to filter and produce drinking water. Contact filtration on this type of filter is characterized by precipitating chemicals (aluminum chloride) added to the water so that flecks are formed in the sand filter which retain both organic and inorganic particles. The treatment is particularly suitable for reducing humus and/or iron, and normally gives a color number of less than 5 mg Pt/L and turbidity lower than 0.1 FTU. Filter sand is continuously washed out into the drain, thus avoiding maturing water. Since the sand is constantly in motion, it requires high-quality materials to avoid wear and tear. This type of filter solution is installed all over the world, and in many Norwegian municipalities. In collaboration with the manufacturer, Unik has the experience and equipment necessary to meet the customer’s requirements and expectations.

Filtration of fluids through filter sand is the most common and best-proven filtration method used for water purification. Sand filters purify water by gravitating or pumping the water through a tank filled with filter sand. The type of filter sand is determined by which raw water is to be filtered, and how fine filtration is desired and achieved.
