Sentek Instrument - Model picoDAS -Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) System
Distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) is demanded in many applications. Traditionally, fiber optic DAS systems are based on time domain detection of Rayleigh backscatters produced by a laser pulse in the sensing fiber. Due to the extremely weak nature of the Rayleigh scattering, these systems often have an acoustic detection sensitivity limited to the order of nanostrains, as a measure of the minimum detectable acoustic wave. In addition, the acoustic measurement often has a poor fidelity, and may even become qualitative only as the sensing distance increases, which further weakens the Rayleigh backscatters.
picoDAS Distributed Acoustic Sensing System breaks this fundamental limit by innovations in sensing fiber manufacturing, interrogator design and advanced signal processing. This product offers exceptional acoustic detection sensitivity with excellent measurement fidelity. Moreover, this system exhibits no sensitivity with sensing distance, free of crosstalk between neighboring sensors and extra sensitivity boost for selective sensing regions. The picoDAS product is an ideal choice for a wide range of applications including but not limited to vertical seismic profiling, microseismic detection, pipeline leak detection, structural health monitoring and low false alarm perimeter security monitoring.
