S.K Euromarket - Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) Plants
Our membrane bioreactor (MBR) plants are packaged, prefabricated units in mono-block structures that have external dimensions equivalent to ISO containers (same height and width). Our MBR plants are easy to transport, install and relocate. MBR plants are designed only for above ground installation and are suitable capable to serve municipal or industrial.
In an MBR plant, the process of pollutant degradation is achieved with high concentrations of activated sludge and the subsequent clarification is performed through the use of submerged membrane units. Membrane filtration in an MBR plant replaces the traditional secondary clarifiers.
The use of membrane filtration, instead of the traditional secondary clarifiers, allows for significantly higher sludge concentrations in an MBR plant than in a conventional activated sludge process. The higher concentrations translate into substantially reduced size dimensions for an MBR plant. In addition, the higher sludge concentration in an MBR plant results in a higher sludge age and consequently a lower production of excess sludge. Furthermore, the submerged membrane units in an MBR plant retain pathogenic bacteria and consequently result in an excellent effluent quality. MBRs are ideal for wastewater treatment applications with stringent effluent requirements, or for applications where the purified effluent water is recycled and reused.
In addition to a BOD and nitrification process, an MBR plant configuration may also include a denitrification process. The filtration process of an MBR plant may be either gravity driven or suction driven through the use of pumps. The filtrate flowrate in an MBR plant is precisely controlled in order to prevent membrane fouling. An MBR plant includes a sophisticated PLC control system that allows for independent control of the diferent processes.
- Separate pretreatment unit (FOG and grit removal) which performs collection, balancing and pumping of raw wastewater into the MBR. It is normally made of concrete and installed underground. Alternatively, it could be made of stainless steel and installed above ground.
- Mono-block above ground MBR structure which consists of the following compartments:
- Denitrification compartment (optional)
- BOD5 reduction and nitrification with fine bubble aeration using a dedicated set of blowers
- Membrane bio reactor (where the submersible membrane units are located) aerated by a second dedicated set of blowers
- Separate tank for final effluent collection and disinfection before discharge for irrigation or other uses.
- Separate equipment cabinet that houses the air blowers, pumps and the control unit.
- All tanks made of stainless steel AISI 304 (or AISI 316 upon demand). External walls may be double layer and/or heat insulated.
- Submersible membrane units structure made of stainless steel
- Membranes made of HDPE
- Aeration system made of stainless steel
- All wet parts made of corrosion free materials (i.e. stainless steel, UPVC, PE or other plastics)
- Excellent quality permeate (free from suspended solids, detergents, pathogenic microorganisms) that can be reused
- Low excess sludge production
- Highly stabilized excess sludge
- Extremely small footprint
- Odourless operation
- Simple, fast and easy transport, installation and relocation due to the external dimensions that are those of ISO containers.
