Water is pumped through hoses and into snow making machines that break the water down into very small particles. These particles, along with air particles, are pumped into a freezing atmosphere and snowflakes are the result.

This seems simple but it is actually a complicated process requiring the correct amounts of water, air and pressure. Air and water can actually be regulated to produce a wet or dry snow.
