Air release valve: in any irrigation system the air is trapped between outlets and the pump and ii takes a considerable initial time for it evacuation. Also the air tends to get back into the system through the outlets- drippers , nozzles etc and during this process the air takes in all the dirt, suspended matter, soil etc. This in turn tend to clog the system. With the use of air valve the air always goes into the system from these. In other words the system breathes through the air valves installed at all strategic locations. Jr valves are a must when the drip system operates directly from a bore well pump, any pump or water source which is beyond 2 mtrs below the system and where ever the land is sloppy. Recommended positions are just after the filter, at beginning of slopes.

These were available only in metal- very expensive. Now these are made in composite metal inserts and with engineering plastic with chrome plated compression springs for everlasting performance. Very affordable.
