Tri-Round - Model ASTM B649 904L -Stainless Steel Bar
This grade is an austenitic stainless steel specification offering moderate to superior corrosion resistance. The DIN 1.4539 Flat Bar has a minimal effect on sulfuric acid, which is a highly corrosive solution, unlike grades 304 or even alloy 316 temperature 35°C to 40°C. Copper can be dissolved by sulfuric acid, an oxidising acid. When exposed to water under a concentrated state, the hygroscopic nature of this acid causes an exothermic reaction that is corrosive to many metals.
ASTM B649 type 904L Rod is relatively unaffected by this acid, so it can be safely transported and stored in sulfuric acid processing units. UNS N08904 Hex Bar is not susceptible to decay in organic or inorganic acids in addition to sulfuric acid. The same cannot be said for acids containing halides. SS 904L Round Bar is highly corrosive and can easily be corroded by halide-containing acids, which is why it is safer to use duplex stainless steel for those applications.
The stainless steel grade 904L is an austenitic, non-stabilized stainless steel. Stainless Steel Grade L Denotes That It Has A Low Carbon Content. Molybdenum, Copper, and Manganese are added to this stainless steel alloy in addition to chrome and nickel.
