Physical Properties

1. Density: ASTM A403 WP304 have a density of around 8.0 g/cm³, making them neither too heavy nor too light for most applications.
2. Melting Point: The melting point for these grades ranges from 1400 to 1455 °C, allowing them to withstand relatively high temperatures.
3. Thermal Conductivity: They have moderate thermal conductivity, which makes them suitable for applications that require consistent temperature control.

Mechanical Properties

1. Tensile Strength: Stainless Steel S30400 exhibit tensile strength of around 515 MPa and 485 MPa, respectively, making them resilient against various forms of mechanical stress.
2. Yield Strength: The yield strength for ANSI B16.9Stainless Steel 304 is about 205 MPa indicating their ability to endure force without permanent deformation.
3. Elongation: These materials have an elongation of around 40-45%, allowing some flexibility without compromising their structural integrity.

Chemical Properties

1. Composition: 304 SS consists of 18% chromium and 8% nickel with small amounts of carbon and manganese. SS 304L has a similar composition but lower carbon content, usually less than 0.03%.
2. Corrosion Resistance: The high chromium content provides excellent resistance to various corrosive environments. The reduced carbon content in 304L further improves resistance to intergranular corrosion.
3. Weldability: SS 304L`s lower carbon content makes it more suitable for welding applications, as it minimizes the risk of carbide precipitation at grain boundaries.
